Temporary Reassignment Program

In response to the continuously changing circumstances involving the spread of COVID-19, effective on March 22, the University of Mississippi has placed a pause on recruiting and hiring.  In addition to the hiring slow down, some employees are not able to work at full capacity due to COVID-19 related reasons. As such, UM schools and departments may have gaps that need to be addressed to ensure UM remains operational.

UM is implementing a temporary job reassignment option for staff employees. The program is designed to assist the UM community in connecting available UM staff employees affected by the reduction in work with UM schools and departments who may have temporary projects or assignments.

Regular/eligible (benefits eligible) staff employees are eligible to participate in the Temporary Reassignment Program. The employees participating in Temporary Reassignment Program will not experience a change in reporting structure or job title.  Some projects and assignments may be required to complete remotely.

How Does the Temporary Reassignment Program Work?

Departments who have gaps, special projects, or have been impacted by the hiring pause, may engage UM employees affected by a reduction in work due to COVID-19 in short term or temporary assignments.  To request support in filling a work assignment through the Temporary Reassignment Program, complete and submit the online Temporary Reassignment Program Request Form. You will then be contacted by the HR Recruitment team and connected with available employees. Funding will be provided by the home department unless alternative arrangements are made. You will have the opportunity to discuss the funding implications with the HR Recruitment during the process.

How Do Managers Refer Employees?

Supervisors and managers may encourage employees impacted by a reduction in work due to COVID-19 to express interest in the Temporary Reassignment Program by completing an interest form on the UM jobs website. Once completed, the HR Recruitment team will work to align that employee’s skills with a work assignment throughout campus. Submitting an interest form does not guarantee placement in an available assignment. Placement in a temporary assignment will depend on the availability and the requirements of requests.
