Leave Programs Under COVID-19 & Potential Arrangements

I am able to work on-site or remotely and will work my regularly scheduled hours. Record actual hours worked with no leave.
I am able to work either on-site or remotely, but working less than my regularly scheduled hours because my department head adjusted my schedule to implement public health recommendations and other precautions in response to COVID-19. Under the Office of the Governor’s Executive Order 1495, administrative leave will no longer be available for agency employees effective July 1, 2020.

Supervisors and managers are encouraged to assign meaningful work to employees to ensure they are working to full capacity.

Telecommuting is still an option if you are able to perform the duties remotely in a productive and effective manner and with your supervisor’s approval.

Effective July 1, 2020, if work is not available to you and you are an hourly/non-exempt employee, you may replace any hours you are not assigned to work with personal leave.  If personal leave is not available or you prefer not to use personal leave, this time will be unpaid.

I am able to work either on-site or remotely, but must work less than my regularly scheduled hours to care for my child, whose school or place of care is closed, or child care provider is unavailable due to COVID-19 related reasons. Please submit your request to Human Resources by completing the request form at https://hr.olemiss.edu/leaverequest/.

Until December 31, 2020, you may be eligible for Emergency Paid Sick Leave for up to two weeks (80 hours, or a part-time employee’s two-week equivalent).

You also may be eligible for Expanded Family & Medical Leave (FMLA+) until December 31, 2020.

Work is available but I am unable to work or telework for either a partial or full day because of a Qualifying Reason:

1.       I am subject to a federal, state, or local quarantine or isolation order related to COVID-19;

2.       I have been advised by a health care provider to self-quarantine related to COVID-19;

3.       I am experiencing COVID-19 symptoms and seeking a medical diagnosis;

4.       I am caring for an individual subject to an order described in (1) or self-quarantine as described in (2);

5.       I am caring for my child whose school or place of care is closed (or child care provider is unavailable) due to COVID-19 related reasons; or

6.       I am experiencing any other substantially-similar condition specified by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

For Qualifying Reason #5, you may also may be eligible for Expanded Family & Medical Leave (FMLA+) until December 31, 2020.

FMLA+ may be used for 12 consecutive weeks or intermittently.

I am able to work, but cannot work any of my regularly scheduled hours because work is not available or my department head adjusted my schedule to implement public health recommendations and other precautions in response to COVID-19. Under the Office of the Governor’s Executive Order 1495, administrative leave is no longer available for agency employees and normal business operations must resume effective July 1, 2020.

Supervisors and managers are encouraged to assign meaningful work to employees to ensure they are working to full capacity.

Telecommuting is still an option if you are able to perform the duties remotely in a productive and effective manner and with your supervisor’s approval.

If work is not available and you are an hourly/non-exempt employee, you may use personal leave.  If personal leave is not available, this time will be unpaid and you may be eligible for unemployment benefits through the Mississippi Department of Employment Security.

I am unable to work due to a medical condition unrelated to COVID-19. You may record the absence as 1st Day Illness (personal leave) and may use major medical and/or personal leave for any remaining absences.
Work is available and I am able to work, but reluctant to return to campus because of COVID-19. You may use your accrued leave in accordance with University policy.

You are encouraged to contact Human Resources to discuss the feasibility of telecommuting or other work options, and the availability of other benefits under the ADA and FMLA.

Am I a Vulnerable Employee?

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has specified that persons 65 years old or older and individuals with certain serious underlying health conditions, including high blood pressure, heart conditions, chronic lung disease, kidney disease, diabetes, obesity, asthma, and the immunocompromised, may be at a higher risk for severe illness if exposed to COVID-19.

To address safety concerns, please contact Human Resources (hr@olemiss.edu) to discuss your specific circumstances, the feasibility of telecommuting or other work options, and the availability of other benefits under the ADA and FMLA.

If you and your supervisor have agreed to a telecommuting arrangement, it is not necessary to contact Human Resources.

I seek leave for personal reasons unrelated to COVID-19. You may use your accrued personal leave in accordance with University policy.
