Child Care

Child care can be an expensive part of any family’s budget. At the University of Mississippi, we’re building resources to support people who are parenting while at UM—whether those parents are students, faculty, or staff—and that includes child care.

Paying for Child Care: what does Mississippi offer?

The Mississippi Child Care Payment Program makes payments directly to your child care provider. Depending on your income, you may (or may not) be asked to pay for a share of the monthly cost. Find out more about income eligibility here, and find the co-payment calculator and application forms here.

An important part of the CCPP application process is having the correct documents ready to upload. Here’s what’s required:

  • Proof of child’s age (official birth certificate)
  • Proof of relationship or guardianship
  • Proof of state residency
  • Proof of parent’s identity
  • Proof of Child Support Cooperation (if applicable)
  • Proof of special needs or disability (of parent and/or child, if applicable)
  • Proof of one of these:
    • work, or
    • enrollment in education/job training program, or
    • combination of employment and school
    • note: for proof of current enrollment at UM, fill out this form and take it to the Registrar’s office in Martindale-Cole. If you’re a full-time student, you don’t need to submit income information.
    • If you’re not a full-time student and need to submit income information, use one of these to establish the family’s income covering the last 30 days: pay stub, tax record, photocopy of checks, wage verification form, or notarized letter from employer

More information about each of these categories is available here; click on the category to see what documents they accept as proof.

What if I need help applying?

Whether you’re a student or employee at UM, we want to help! We can you determine eligibility and help you apply. Sign up for an on-campus CCPP consultation. The consultation will be most helpful if you bring the required documents with you. If you need help chasing down one of the required documents, we may be able to help with that. If you can’t make one of the help sessions, feel free to set up an appointment for another time by emailing Lynn Wilkins at lwilkins@olemiss.edu.

What other support is available?

If you are a single mother, you may also qualify for additional support and assistance through the Employment Equity for Single Moms program. EESM can pay for child care while a single mother is waiting to find out whether her application to the CCPP program was accepted, and can connect her with other resources, as well. Ms. Zaffron King of the Mississippi Low-Income Child Care Initiative is the contact for our section of the state. Find information and assistance here.

If you are a parent who is also a UM student, check out the resources listed on the UM Student Parent page.
