Changes for New Staff Hires Effective July 1, 2023
Effective July 1, hire dates for staff and Benefits Orientation will occur on Mondays.
Change #1:
Hire dates (first day of employment) and transfer dates for staff hires will occur on Mondays. A calendar of future Monday dates with offer approval deadlines is available. This change will increase the number of hire dates. Research demonstrates this is a best practice and this update will enhance the new employee experience. When a Monday falls on a holiday, the new employee will start on the following Tuesday.
Current process: New staff hires and internal transfers hire dates are at the beginning of a pay period.
New process: Hire dates and internal transfer hire dates for staff hires are available each Monday.
This increase in dates should eliminate the need for requesting an exception.
Any current job offers with hire dates not beginning on a Monday that have been approved before this announcement will still be honored.
Change #2:
The new hire must attend Benefits Orientation on their Monday hire date.
Current process: New hires attend a Benefits Orientation within their first 30 days of employment.
New process: New hires will attend Benefits Orientation on the morning of their first day. Benefits Orientation will occur every Monday and new hire is expected to attend and submit their online enrollment timely.
At no time should a new employee work prior to receiving an official job offer and completing the new hire process with Human Resources.
This update does not affect:
- Faculty start dates. Faculty employment dates can be found on the Faculty Contract Dates webpage.
- Student employee start dates.
